Mission Statement
Today's Students, Tomorrow's Teachers' mission is to recruit, mentor,
and place economically-challenged and culturally-diverse high school
students through college to employment as teachers and leaders who
will inspire and strengthen their communities.
Vision Statement
Today's Students, Tomorrow's Teachers is an independent, tax exempt
501C 3, non-profit organization that works collaboratively with
school districts, colleges, individuals, and business partners
.to
become the premiere career development program for inspiring future
teachers and a diverse talent pool of future leaders.
The Purpose
A career development program that recruits and mentors high school
students, especially students of color, into the teaching profession.
The Need
- Anticipated teacher shortages to serve markedly increased enrollments
- Severe shortage of qualified teachers of color to serve as
role models for a rapidly increasing, culturally diverse, student
population.
The Challenge
- To attract and employ highly qualified teachers to Putnam, Westchester,
and Rockland Counties and other expanded areas which may be effectively
served.
- To progress towards a staff of teachers which reflects the
student
population.
About the Program
- Collaborative effort among school districts, colleges, parents,
businesses, and communities.
- Encourages high school students, particularly students of color,
to enter the teaching profession by providing:
- Internships
- 50% Scholarships
- Mentors
- SAT Preparation
- Students return as highly qualified teachers and significant
role models for a growing multicultural student environment.
