Why is Student Leadership Important?
GOAL: To enhance the TSTT program by including a Middle School student enrichment component, TSTT activities are integrated into the school day, and provide an increased focus on Leadership from 8th grade through high school graduation.
The Student Leadership Movement (SLM) provides the following:
- Develops Leadership and Character: Peer-mentoring, peer tutoring and character development activities designed to produce leaders.
- Establishes membership in Educators Rising (formerly Future Educators Association):
Fosters appreciation for and interest in teaching and creates positive role models in schools and communities.
- Provides Pre-college readiness experiences: High School students take college classes for credit leading to co-operative student teaching experiences.
- Focuses on Service-Learning and enrichment activities: Contributes to student engagement and academic achievement; creates positive school climate and culture; provides a seamless transition from middle school through college.
