The TSTT program was launched in the Ossining School District by Dr. Bettye Perkins as a future teacher’s club in 1994. With tremendous support from the Ossining school leadership and the community, TSTT has grown from just seven students in the Ossining School District in Westchester County to nearly 1,000 students across four states. As the first region, we are proud that nearly 125 Westchester County graduates are serving as teachers, school administrators, college professors, and other professionals around the world. In the fall of 2024, TSTT took an exciting step forward by expanding into Isaac E. Young Middle School and Peekskill Middle School with the introduction of the Student Leadership Movement (SLM). More than just a program, SLM is a powerful journey that inspires 8th-grade students to unlock their leadership potential, believe in their ability to make a difference, and step confidently into their future. It serves as a launching pad that prepares these young leaders to become passionate and purpose-driven members of TSTT as they begin their high school journey.
The Westchester County Region currently serves over 200 students in middle school, high school, and college. We look forward to expanding the program to other school districts this year and beyond.
TSTT Westchester Region Host Career Development Workshops at Pace University
The Westchester Region recently hosted its Career Development Workshops (CDW) at Pace University, welcoming students from New Rochelle High School, Isaac Young Middle School, and Peekskill High School. Students participated in engaging career?focused workshops facilitated by Pace University professors, including Dr. White and Dr. Sipos.
We were honored to have M&T Bank join us to present a financial literacy workshop, with a special focus on budgeting. Additional workshop topics included “Why Become a Teacher?” and a hands?on STEM session designed to spark curiosity and career exploration.
Students also had the opportunity to explore the Pace University campus, giving them a firsthand look at college life. The day concluded with a meaningful Q&A session, where high school students shared advice and insights with middle school participants, fostering mentorship and peer learning.
Teacher Mentors accompanied their students throughout the workshops, contributing to a productive and inspiring day of learning, collaboration, and future planning.
