Today's Students Tomorrow's Teachers (TSTT) proudly celebrated the achievements of students, families, educators, and community partners during the 2026 Sullivan & Ulster Counties Regional Recognition Brunch held on June 11, 2026, at the SUNY Sullivan Student Union. The event, themed "Continuing the Vision: Cultivating, Caring, Committed, and Competent Teachers," opened with welcome remarks from Regional Program Manager Brendon Miller, the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem led by Maria Nardi of Fallsburg Central School District, and inspiring remarks from TSTT Founder, President, and CEO Dr. Bettye H. Perkins. Dr. Perkins emphasized the critical role educators play in shaping communities and encouraged students to embrace their calling to educate, uplift, mentor, and serve. Special recognition was extended to Fallsburg Superintendent Dr. Ivan Katz, and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sally Sharkey, Ms. Shana Bruestle, Principal of Fallsburg Junior-Senior High School and Jaime Schmeiser from SUNY Sullivan for their unwavering support of students and TSTT's mission.

A highlight of the celebration was the keynote remarks delivered by Sherrod Williams, a proud Fallsburg graduate and distinguished TSTT alumnus whose journey exemplifies the program's full-circle impact. After participating in TSTT as a student, Sherrod went on to become an educator and now contributes to educational initiatives at the statewide level. His story of perseverance, mentorship, and service inspired students and families alike. The event also honored outstanding teacher mentors Colleen Keaveney and Ruth Meaker, whose dedication and guidance continue to help shape future educators and leaders throughout the region.

Students were recognized for their academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to serving their communities. A special highlight was the presentation of the 2026 Lois T. Bronz Scholarship to Azon Laurel of Fallsburg Junior-Senior High School. An accomplished student leader, volunteer firefighter, and community servant with more than 1,000 hours of volunteer service, Azon has earned both his high school diploma and an associate degree and will attend Syracuse University this fall to study International Relations. The celebration concluded with words of encouragement from Dr. Perkins, who reminded students that they are tomorrow's leaders and that TSTT will continue to support them every step of the way. Together, the event showcased the power of partnerships among schools, families, colleges, mentors, and communities in cultivating the next generation of leaders and educators.
