Dr. Bettye Perkins and TSTT honored by Sister to Sister International!

Celebrating an Extraordinary Afternoon of Impact & Inspiration!

On Sunday, May 3, we proudly celebrated a remarkable milestone as Dr. Bettye Perkins and Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT) were honored with the Dr. Lavinia B. Smith Distinguished Service Award at Sister to Sister International’s Pre-Mother’s Day Jazz Brunch & Hat Parade held at the exquisite Royal Regency Hotel in Yonkers, NY.

This prestigious recognition reflects Dr. Perkins’ over 30 years of unwavering dedication to closing the teacher diversity gap, transforming the lives of more than 1,700 students and building a powerful pipeline of future educators. In her heartfelt remarks, Dr. Perkins honored the legacy of Dr. Lavinia B. Smith, a beloved retired school counselor, devoted Board Member of Sister to Sister International, youth advocate, and leader of the inspiring “Granny Rappers.” She also paid tribute to the strength and resilience of her late mother, and the teachers and role models who shaped her lifelong commitment to service, making this Mother’s Day recognition especially meaningful.

Congratulations to all of the outstanding honorees and to the incredible STSI STEAM program, continuing to uplift and empower the next generation of leaders.

And of course, the Hat Parade—a signature highlight—did not disappoint! The room was filled with stunning hats and fascinators, adding elegance, creativity, and joy to an already unforgettable celebration.

With gratitude to Cheryl Brannan, Founder and CEO and Sister to Sister International for an inspiring event and for honoring the work that continues to strengthen our communities through education.

Your legacy. Their future. Our inspiration.
